We're Flipping the Clasroom!

Hi lovely readers! It's that time of the week again 😋

This week's blog is going to be quite enlightening, I'm sure. First of all, in our class this week, we discussed the topic of the "flipped language classroom." So, what is a flipped classroom?

A flipped classroom is structured around the idea that lectures or direct instruction are not the best use of class time. Instead, students are exposed to the material before class, freeing up class time for activities that require higher-order thinking. This approach helps teachers prioritize active learning during class by assigning lecture materials and presentations to be watched at home or outside of class.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          via GIPHY

It might sound a bit complicated when explained this way, but it’s actually very similar to the educational YouTube videos we’re all used to. You'll understand it better when I share my own example. This method allows us to save a significant amount of class time. It helps us handle the passive part of learning outside of class and make the in-class experience more active.

However, despite these advantages, the fact that the video-watching part relies on student responsibility makes things a bit challenging. It’s essential not to lose control of the process.

For this assignment, our teacher asked us to create a flipped classroom material of about 5 minutes in length. My two friends and I formed a group and completed the task. The process turned out to be easier than I expected. We must give credit to Berkay—he did an excellent job with the editing.

The instructions suggested using various tools and websites, but for the video preparation part, we used Canva and Microsoft Clipchamp. These tools made our work much easier. If you ever consider preparing such a material, keep them in mind.

As for the topic, we chose "Comparatives and Superlatives," and it turned out to be a really fun video. There is also a quiz for students to complete afterwards. I also linked it below. Enjoy watching!
